Self-Drive vs. Captained: Which Is Right for You?
Roadrunner is self-drive only. We don't run captained trips, and that's a deliberate choice. Skipping the captain keeps the price down, keeps every seat on the boat for your group, and lets you decide where you stop and how long you stay there.
Booking direct with us also means no marketplace fees — you're paying for the boat and the gas, not a platform's cut.

Age & License Requirements for Self-Drive Rentals
To rent and drive one of our boats in Boca Raton you must be at least 35 years old, or hold a valid Florida Boating Safety Education ID Card. No separate captain's license is required.
Separately, Florida law says anyone born on or after January 1, 1988 needs a Florida Boating Safety Education ID Card to operate a vessel over 10HP. The course is online, takes about 3 hours, and is recognized statewide.

The Handling Skills We Teach at the Dock
Before you leave the slip we run through the three things new drivers actually need: backing out with wind on the beam, holding a straight line at idle, and coming alongside slowly with a spring line ready. Ten minutes at the dock and most renters are comfortable.
We also cover throttle discipline in no-wake zones, how the pontoon reacts when you cut power, and the anchor-set routine step by step — then we stay one phone call away for the rest of your trip.
Where You Can Go on a Self-Drive Rental
You launch from 99 SE Mizner Blvd unit 600, Boca Raton, right on the Intracoastal. From the dock you have direct access to Lake Boca and the sandbar, plus the Intracoastal Waterway north toward Deerfield Beach and south toward Delray Beach.
Self-drive rentals stay inside protected water. The Boca Inlet and the ocean are off-limits — our pontoons are not permitted outside the Intracoastal and Lake Boca. That keeps the ride flat, the day easy, and the boat where help can reach you quickly.
It's more water than most groups use in eight hours: the sandbar, the mansion-lined stretches of the Intracoastal, and several waterfront restaurants you can pull up to.
What's Included & What You're Responsible For
Every self-drive rental includes gas, a cooler with ice, a floating mat, life jackets, and all required safety equipment. There's nothing extra to rent at the dock.
Bring a valid photo ID and a credit card — both are required at pickup for the person driving the boat.
There is no damage deposit and no security hold on your card. In exchange, we ask you to run the boat the way we show you at the dock: stay in the marked channel, keep to no-wake speeds where posted, and call us before you try to solve a problem on the water.
Weather & Cancellation Policy
If the weather isn't safe, we cancel the rental and refund you in full. You never pay for a day we call off.
South Florida weather moves fast, so we watch the forecast the morning of your trip and call you directly if anything changes. When conditions are borderline, we'll talk it through with you and offer another day instead.
